Switching Platform

Switching Platform

Technical Description

The IRS Switching Platform is a modular and scalable solution for signal and load switching in automated testing systems. Consisting of mainframe(s) and a large portfolio of possible plug-in cards with different functions, it allows for a high degree of standardization. Integration into test processes occurs exclusively via a communication-based TCP/IP interface, eliminating the need for wiring of digital I/O lines compared to specifically built load racks.

By using well-known components, design and planning processes can be optimized as well as making the ordering process more efficient and with shorter delivery times. Wiring planning, documentation, and even test sequence development can begin very early, thus shortening project durations.

Advantages in Test System Design

  • Effective Test System Integration and Operation:
The use of standardized components facilitates planning, construction, documentation, spare parts management, and maintenance.

  • Compact Size:
Many plug-in cards (SP modules) provide space for placing load components such as resistors or coils. This saves space in the test system that would otherwise be needed for separate load racks.

  • Future-Proofing:
The modular and scalable concept offers maximum flexibility. This allows for low entry costs while providing nearly unlimited expansion options for future requirements.

  • Diversity with Uniform Control:
Over 20 different modules from 2A matrix cards to 10A, 30A, and 70A load cards (relays, MOSFETs) to high-current switching solutions over 400A can be controlled through a single Ethernet port.

  • Added Value:
Thoughtful and practical features such as integrated current measurement in load paths (shunt or current transformers), temperature measurement via 1-wire sensors, current monitoring, fault reporting, load cooling, additionally usable TCP/IP ports, and much more enhance the functionality of the entire test system.

  • Internal Diagnostic Functions:
Many switching modules offer internal diagnostic functions including test reports for detecting defective switching paths or other malfunctions.

  • Standardised Software:
Configuration of the entire switching topology, custom naming of switching paths, concurrently executable test panels for manual switching and troubleshooting, .Net API functions, automated switching sequences, all in an intuitive software environment.

  • Custom Modules:
The development and production of custom switching modules can be done easily with low one-time development costs.

Application Areas

  • Decentralized Testing Requirements:
Due to the TCP/IP control and modular scalability, the IRS Switching Platform is well suited for the deployment of spatially distributed switching tasks.

  • Test System Standardization:
Significantly increases the degree of standardization of test systems in the field of signal and load connections and simplifies planning, integration, and operation.

  • Production and Quality Assurance:
Used in production facilities, e.g., end of line, inline, stand-alone, but also in development and laboratory areas such as validation and lifetime testing facilities

  • Research and Development:
Due to the modular and open system architecture in hardware and software, it is ideally suited for the development and deployment of new, innovative testing methods.

The IRS Switching Platform provides a standardized, powerful, and flexibly configurable switching solution that significantly boosts efficiency and flexibility in automated testing environments.
