URL: https://irs.systems/en/docs/irs-icecube-pro/safety

This section provides an overview of all important safety aspects for optimum protection of personnel and for safe and trouble-free operation.

Failure to observe the handling instructions and safety instructions listed in this manual can result in considerable hazards.

IRS Systementwicklung GmbH accepts no liability for damage resulting from disregard of the provisions of this operating manual.

## Responsibility of the operator

The test system is used in the commercial sector. The operator of the device is therefore subject to the legal obligations regarding occupational safety.

In addition to the occupational safety instructions in this operating manual, the safety, accident prevention and environmental protection regulations applicable to the area of application of the device must be observed. In particular:

The operator must obtain information on the applicable occupational health and safety regulations and, in a risk assessment, additionally identify hazards arising from the special working conditions at the place where the device is used. The operator must implement these in the form of operating instructions for the operation of the device.

- The operator must clearly regulate and define the responsibilities for installation, operation, maintenance and cleaning.
- The operator is responsible for ensuring that only trained personnel work directly or indirectly on the system; in addition, the personnel must have read and understood the operating manual. Furthermore, the operator must instruct the personnel at regular intervals and inform them about the hazards.
- Work instructions must be drawn up by the operator.
- The operator must provide the personnel with the necessary protective equipment.
- The operator is obliged to ensure that the keys supplied by the manufacturer are kept separately from the test system. It must be ensured that unauthorized and unqualified persons have no access to them.
- In particular, the operator must ensure that the test system is used only for the intended application.
- The operating instructions must always be available, legible and complete, at the place where the test system is used.
- None of the safety and warning notices attached to the machine may be removed, and they must be legible.
- Furthermore, the operator is responsible for ensuring that the device is always in technically perfect condition. The following therefore applies:
  - The operator must ensure that the maintenance intervals described in this operating manual are observed.
  - The operator must have all safety devices checked regularly for functionality and completeness.

> **DANGER!**
> The operator is responsible for ensuring that no safety measure is bypassed. The manufacturer accepts no liability for any resulting damage and accidents.

## Personnel requirements

> **WARNING!**
> **Risk of injury due to insufficient qualification!** Improper handling can result in considerable personal injury and damage to property. **Therefore:** Have all activities carried out only by personnel qualified to do so. Persons who are undergoing training must not carry out any work on the test system unsupervised.

**Personnel according to DGUV Regulation 3**

**Person in control of the installation**
is a person who has been assigned direct responsibility for the operation of the electrical installation. If necessary, this responsibility can be partially transferred to other persons.

**Qualified electrician**
is a person who, on the basis of their technical training, knowledge and experience as well as knowledge of the relevant regulations, can assess the work assigned to them and recognize possible hazards.

**Electrically instructed person**
is a person who has been informed by a qualified electrician about the tasks assigned to them and the possible hazards of improper behavior, has been trained if necessary, and has been instructed about the necessary protective devices and protective measures.

## Safety rules

> **WARNING!**
> **Risk of injury if not observed!** Before any maintenance and servicing work, the 5 safety rules must be observed: Disconnect. Secure against reconnection. Verify the absence of voltage. Ground and short-circuit. Cover or fence off adjacent live parts.

## Reasonably foreseeable misuse

Any use other than or beyond that specified under “[Intended use](/en/docs/irs-icecube-pro/general-information#intended-use)” is deemed not to be as intended.

> **Note**
> The operator must obtain information about the safety functions of the IRS ICEcube PRO and be fully aware of them. The device may only be operated by trained personnel. The operator must draw up corresponding work instructions and specifications and provide training on them. IRS Systementwicklung GmbH accepts no liability for consequential damage resulting from non-compliance with safety regulations or from faulty programming and operation. Defective safety devices must never be bypassed and must be repaired or replaced by qualified personnel.

Claims of any kind for damage resulting from use other than intended use are excluded. The operator alone is liable for all damage resulting from use other than intended use.

## Personal protective equipment

Personal protective equipment must be worn during work to minimize health hazards.

- Always wear the protective equipment required for the respective work while working.
- Follow the notices on personal protective equipment posted in the work area.

> **Note**
> IRS Systementwicklung GmbH recommends the following protective equipment for this system: ESD clothing should be worn. Safety shoes should be worn. Work gloves should be worn. The operator must determine whether further protective equipment is required.

## Particular hazards

Observe the safety instructions listed here and the warnings in the other chapters of this manual to reduce health hazards and avoid dangerous situations.

> **DANGER!**
> **Danger from electric shock!** Contact with live parts poses an immediate danger to life. Damage to the insulation or to individual components can be life-threatening. **Therefore:** If the insulation is damaged, switch off the power supply immediately and arrange for repair. Have work on the electrical system carried out only by qualified electricians. For all work on the electrical system, disconnect it from the power supply and verify that it is de-energized. Before maintenance, cleaning and repair work, switch off the power supply and secure it against being switched on again. Do not bypass fuses or put them out of operation. When replacing fuses, observe the correct amperage. Keep moisture away from live parts. It can cause a short circuit.

## Behavior in case of danger and accidents

**Preventive measures**

- Always be prepared for accidents or fire.
- Keep first aid equipment (first aid kit, blankets, etc.) and fire extinguishers within easy reach.
- Familiarize personnel with accident reporting, first aid and rescue equipment.
- Keep access routes clear for emergency vehicles.

**Measures in the event of accidents**

- Trigger the emergency stop immediately.
- Initiate first aid measures.
- Rescue persons from the danger zone.
- Inform the person responsible at the site.
- Alert the emergency services.
- Clear access routes for emergency vehicles.

## General warning of residual risks

The test system is built according to the state of the art and the recognized safety rules. Nevertheless, risks to life and limb of the user or third parties may arise when handling the test system. In particular, faults or operating states that can impair the safety of the users make it necessary to shut down the device (main switch). In this case, the intended condition must be properly restored (e.g., by maintenance).

> **DANGER!**
> Incorrect handling of electrical components can result in injuries and fatal electric shocks. Control cabinets, sub-distribution boards and terminals may only be opened by authorized qualified personnel. Before repair, maintenance or cleaning work, switch off the main switch and apply the 5 safety rules.

## General signage of the test system

General notes on the signage of the test system:

> **WARNING!**
> Risk of injury due to illegible symbols! Over time, stickers and signs can become dirty or otherwise unrecognizable. **Therefore:** Keep all safety, warning and operating notices in a clearly legible condition at all times. Replace damaged signs or stickers immediately.
